About Penile Implant Surgery

Penile implant surgery is a procedure in which a penile prosthesis is placed inside the penis. It is used for severe erectile dysfunction when conservative treatment no longer provides a satisfactory result.

The AMS 700 three-piece penile implant is placed completely inside the body. In its inactive state, it is not externally visible and does not interfere with everyday life. To create an erection, the patient manually activates a pump located in the scrotum. Fluid moves into the cylinders placed inside the penis, creating sufficient rigidity for sexual intercourse.

Which Implant Brand Is Used?

AMS 700 is one of the best-known and most clinically studied three-piece inflatable penile implants in the world. It is manufactured by Boston Scientific in the United States. The system has been used since 1973, has undergone extensive clinical evaluation, and is widely considered a gold standard in penile implant surgery.

Who Is Penile Implant Surgery For?

Penile implant surgery is usually not considered the first treatment step. It is recommended for patients when other treatment methods have not been effective.

Severe erectile dysfunction

No effect from oral medication

No effect from injection therapy

Erectile dysfunction after prostate surgery

Diabetes-related erectile dysfunction with vascular problems

Peyronie’s disease with significant penile deformity

Venous leak and persistent vascular erectile dysfunction

How the Surgery Is Performed

The operation is performed under anesthesia. The surgeon places the cylinders inside the penis, the pump inside the scrotum, and the fluid reservoir in the pelvic area or lower abdomen. All parts of the system remain inside the body.

On average, surgery takes 2–4 hours. After the operation, the patient remains under medical supervision. The doctor monitors healing, explains postoperative care, and determines when the implant can be activated.
