About Deep Brain Stimulation
Deep Brain Stimulation — is an advanced neurosurgical treatment for Parkinson’s disease. It involves placing electrodes into specific deep structures of the brain to deliver controlled electrical impulses. DBS can help reduce tremor, stiffness, slowness of movement, and dyskinesias, and may significantly improve quality of life in carefully selected patients.
How the DBS System Works

The DBS system consists of three components that are fully implanted under the skin. Electrodes are placed in target areas of the brain responsible for movement control. Thin extension wires connect the electrodes to a neurostimulator, which is placed under the skin in the chest area. After the initial healing period, the doctor activates and programs the system.
Who Is Suitable for Parkinson’s DBS Surgery?
Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s disease may be suitable for patients who were diagnosed more than 5 years ago and whose symptoms, such as tremor and stiffness, are no longer adequately controlled with medication.
Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease
Severe tremor that interferes with daily life
Stiffness and slowness of movement
Periods when medication stops working effectively
Motor fluctuations during the day
Dyskinesias caused by long-term medication use
Who Is Not Suitable for Parkinson’s DBS Surgery?
Deep Brain Stimulation is not suitable for every patient with Parkinson’s disease. DBS usually does not solve problems when the main complaints are related to significant memory impairment, dementia, severe psychiatric disorders, or serious speech, swallowing, or balance problems. In such cases, surgery may not provide the expected benefit.
How Treatment Is Organized
Submit Your Request
You send your diagnosis, age, list of medications, neurology reports, and short videos showing symptoms such as tremor, walking, and stiffness. The coordinator receives and structures the information.
02
Doctor’s Evaluation
The neurosurgeon reviews the documents and determines whether there are indications for DBS surgery. If needed, additional examinations may be requested.
03
Travel Plan
After preliminary confirmation, the arrival dates, examinations, surgery, and hospitalization are planned. The coordinator helps with all organizational details.
04
Arrival in Istanbul
A personal transfer meets the patient at the airport and takes them for hospital admission. An interpreter accompanies the patient at every stage.
05
Examination and Surgery
On the first day, neurosurgeon consultations and preoperative diagnostics are performed. The surgery usually takes 3–4 hours. After surgery, the patient remains under medical observation for 2 nights.
06
Discharge and Follow-Up
The system is activated 10–14 days after surgery. The doctor selects the stimulation settings and explains further follow-up. The patient receives recommendations in their native language.
